New Year, Old ILX

Old ILX is back at http://ilxor.com/ILX/. There are still a few teething troubles, so there may be some outages over the next few days while we're tuning things, but hopefully this will be back for good.

The Sandbox will be off for a day or two while things settle down.

Good News: Just about ready to bring ILX back up.

Bad News: Rebuilding the indexes etc from scratch is taking up all the server's capacity, so the Sandbox will be down while that's going on. It'll be back by this evening at the latest.

Short version: Still working out best route to replace our server; have extra hands on deck; have some good options here. I reckon a full ILX back in a week or two. May be some fundraising required.

Still a few issues, but the sandbox is up at beta.ilxor.com -- use your sandbox account to log in, if you have one. (If you don't, register again).

Have got a temporary home sorted out, and all the basics needed to run ILX are in place. The sandbox db is uploaded, and it's all mostly working

I need to leave some things running overnight, and there are some more fixes required, but I should able to turn on the sandbox again by tomorrow. Will post here when it's done.

... stet was optimistic. The cause of the database problem I mentioned yesterday turned out to be a dead hard disk, which means the server is going to be out of action for a while. Give me a day or two, I'll sort out a temporary home of some kind.

(NB: Nothing has been lost, all the backups are fine)

ILX is back. There will be some maintenance interruptions, probably at the weekend, but it should be good to go for now. PM to follow.

Blue Monday

This weekend's crash was most likely caused by hardware failure, but there are some other unusual things we want to check out, which will take a couple of days.

All the backups have worked, however, which means that everything on ILX and the sandbox is safe, it's just a matter of getting the hardware restored. If this could take more than a week, I'll try to get a sandbox running to see us through the long, dark nightmare.

Good news: the backups for ILX and the sandbox are safe and seemingly sound, and we're sort-of back in to the server.

Bad news: it is not a healthy server; may not stay up for very long, and we shouldn't turn services back on yet. I'm looking into our options, and will have more news tomorrow, hopefully.

We can't connect to the server at all right now. Have asked the hosts to investigate. Turn back, etc.

UPDATE: Situation doesn't look good for a speedy recovery from this one. I'll have more for you on Monday, but will post here if that changes in the meantime.

You're not alone -- and it's not just you, there are a few reports of people just unable to see the site at all.

The problem probably isn't at your end -- after the reconfig last week the server has some odd network problems that I'm trying to iron out with the hosts. I'll post more here when I know it.

Attn Class:

There was a network change at the hosts early this morning, but they had trouble applying the new config to our server. Although it's still running, we can't get at it, so neither can you.

They do now have the details they need to fix it, so it should be back up pretty soon, I hope.

I still need to get more details on the sponsorship situation, but we're definitely OK until the end of June. While we're down some updated code and database changes are going in (and the offsite backups are being brought up to date), so when that's finished we'll be back. If everything goes smoothly, it'll be days, not weeks.

We'll hopefully be back by the time I know more about hosting, but if not I'll post more here. Thanks to everyone who emailed so far.

Hosting problem

The sites -- ILX and the Sandbox -- are down this weekend.

The hosting sponsorship deal we had with PaperThinWalls has been cancelled by their new owners. There's a chance we can keep going until the end of June -- if that happens, we'll be back up on Monday. Otherwise, the downtime will last until we can sort out new sponsorship, new hosting or raise the cash for our current host's fees. (If you think you can help with any of these, let me know at stet@ilxor.com)
